it's so hard explaining how i imagine the dynamics of luke cage, danny rand and jessica jones
a) it's important that at some point they've had some weirdass romance pentagon with matt murdock and peter parker and misty knight (who had something with colleen). ahem.
b) lukedannyjess is wholesome bc it's the world where all three of them are happy. usually the three of them raising dani cage
c) lukedanny is good because THIS is a real example of best friends to lovers.
d) lukejess is good because it's canon, and they make each other better people and i just love them so much
e) dannyjess gets overlooked a lot, part of which is because of the fact that danny really didn't like jess when luke first brought her around, but they're since cleared that up. but the narrative potential of luke being injured and falling in love with the partner of the man you're in love with has a lot of hgnnnngnggh good plot to it
f) dannymisty, where lukedannyjess does NOT happen. though in this timeline, danny definitely had feelings for luke at some point, can't convince me otherwise. but in this timeline, we get lucy rand, who CANONICALLY ends up marrying dani cage in a timeline where they both exist
guys im so normal aboout this i swear--

“Genre” fans know that given Dunes status as a hugely influential cornerstone of SFF, there are a lot of characters who are suspiciously similar to Maud’Dib himself. Some are blatant knockoffs, while others are more lovingly inspired. Two of my favorite series that I regularly blog about have their own characters who remind me suspiciously of Paul: Daenerys Targaryen (possibly unintentional) and Rand al’Thor (no way RJ didn’t notice.) Now the real question: who reminds you more of Paul.
Dany propaganda-The surviving heir to a once powerful House brought down by their political enemies that she is working to restore who finds herself living among a people stereotyped by the outside world as brutal savages, but as she integrates into their culture and begins to show omens of power, they come to see her as a prophesied leader and eventually consolidate behind her to fight for her cause (admittedly there is some Winds speculation there but it where the story was set up to go.) She takes a fearsome legendary beast as a mount and bases many of her decisions off of a series of visions. She is disturbed by the violence and death that comes with her campaign and fears that she’s a monster.
Rand propaganda-A young man born to a mother who planned on fulfilling an ancient prophecy with his existence, backed by a cunning member of an powerful but mysterious all female organization who have special abilities, unique as a male wielder of the same power as them while their training is typically reserved for women. He is adopted as a leader and messiah from an ancient prophecy by the insular warrior people of the desert who are regarded as violent savages by the rest of the world (and who hold water as sacred.) He develops a strong personal connection to his new people, who select leaders of their tribe find out through vision quests were once peaceful in long ago history but were hardened by brutal events that forced them into their current unforgiving homeland, and falls in love with a young woman who teaches him about her culture, though he also ends up involved with a princess. They lead a crusade out of their harsh homeland to help him form his empire, where he is alternately feared and worshipped, though he is tormented by his destiny and the violence he is both forced to commit and (much more prevalently) the violence committed in his name. In the end, he reclaims his humanity after securing the future and disappears.

It gets even better than that! Danny and Misty's daughter in the Secret Wars: Secret Love alternate universe is named Lucy after Luke.
Tumblr media
Secret Wars: Secret Love, "Misty and Danny Forever" by Jeremy Whitley, Gurihiru, and Clayton Cowles
And there's a future in which Dani and Lucy are married to each other.
Just found out that Luke Cage’s daughters name is Dani, that’s so cute I’m actually gonna keel over and die, Luke and Danny are the comic book best friends

As I have been reading my way through the Fantasy genre, I have found my thoughts constantly returning to Daenerys, and how she fulfils the Chosen One Trope in ASOIAF, and how that compares to the Chosen One Trope in other fantasy books. The one I compare it to the most in my mind is Wheel of Time. Worth noting that the first few WoT books were released before AGOT. When I was reading WoT, and the Farseer Trilogy, I thought about how similar Jon Snow was to both Rand and Fitz. It could be seen as plagiarism im sure by many people. And it would be… if he was the chosen one. But that’s where George sets himself apart. Because Jon Snow isn’t the Chosen one, he is a red herring due to his similarities to these other characters (not knowing his true parentage being the big one). He seems to be set up to play that role in the story… then doesn’t.
I think George makes Danys fulfilment of the prophecy as clear as Rands fulfilment of the prophecy. She awakens the dragons from stone; beneath a bleeding star; amidst salt and smoke. She has her figurative rebirth. The fact this is so hotly debated in the ASOIAF fandom, whereas Rand being the Chosen One of his world, which I imagine isn’t a hot debate, is further evidence that any debate surrounding Dany=AA is mostly due to misogyny. This is something a lot of people in the fandom refuse to acknowledge. They can’t fathom that a girl who doesn’t wield a sword can be the hero of the story.
People state Dany = AA is “too obvious” (whilst simultaneously using that argument to state it isn’t her), that she isn’t a subversive enough choice. She IS the subversion. The Dragons are the subversion. It is not a secret, it is not a plot twist. When has the Chosen One prophecy ever been a secret throughout the majority of the series? How would that work? How could the author accomplish anything if it’s a mystery for the most part? Chosen One Tropes aren’t mysterious. It defeats the purpose of the trope. They are known. And frankly, Dany isn’t even recognised in the world in a widespread fashion as the chosen one. It’s the audience and a few characters that know.
With WoT, the mystery in relation to the Chosen One, is if he’ll succumb to the madness; stay with the Light or go to the dark, that was Jordan’s choice of subversion, in ASOIAF, George chooses to subvert with gender and no literal sword at play (however we do see a play on Exacalibur- pulling dragons from stone). The mystery is how in the FUCK do we get our Hero to Westeros whilst she is hellbent on ending an oppressive regime and having a hard time ending it. THAT is the struggle. That is the mystery.
I also do not believe that Jon is part of the AA/TPTWP prophecy, because if the subversion is that our hero is a little girl, then including him is a cop out and undoes that.

Well, that's that I guess.
The Great Hunt is how I was introduced to the WOT series and fantasy in general and I went back and read The Eye of the World. I loved the magic system, alternate realities and Grolm and portal stones and I was excited to see all that on the TV show. What I got instead was a season of Rand working in an asylum and shacking up with Lanfear. At that point I was watching mainly for the wonder girls.
I will say that I feel bad for the cast of this show. This show had one of the best cast I have seen including a fairly diverse one. I watched this on Amazon Prime and I wanted it to do well for the cast. Diversity in fantasy TV shows is so rare.
I wish Madeleine Madden, Zoe Robbins, Marcus Rutherford, Josha Stradowski and Donal Finn all the best for their future careers. Especially Madeleine Madden who did an amazing job and I want to see more of her in future projects.
Egwene al'Vere is arguably the female lead of the books paralleling Rand al'Thor and I wish the TV show centered more on her and the rest of the Emond's Field five instead of Moiraine.
The focus on Moiraine would be like if GOT focused on Ned Stark to the detriment of Jon, Dany, Arya, Bran and Tyrion, just because he was played by Sean Bean - at that time the most popular actor on the show.
GOT for the most part refused to do that in the early seasons and followed the books even down to the dialogue. They held on to that book fanbase until the show developed enough of an audience that they could then change stuff and it wouldn't affect viewership numbers even if book fans stopped watching.
WOT on the other hand was not confident enough in it's young, unknown actors to carry the book story and instead wrote around Moiraine because she was played by Rosamund Pike and they needed to give her more to do. I feel that this was to detriment of the story. They also changed too much - in season one - driving away book fans, nor was the writing so good that they were able to attract a non book audience.
And well, by the time we got to a more well written season 3, the damage was done and the show had lost most of it's audience.
Anyways, yeah.
We will always have the books. And unlike with asoiaf and GOT, in this case the books are finished and the story is complete.

Fanfic Author’s Thought on an AU Daenerys Targaryen
So… I was (and still kind of am) deeply jaded by what happened in Season 8 with Daenerys Targaryen. I loved her. I loved her in the books, I loved her in the show, and I still love her and watching her story get butchered haunted me for a long time.
Knowing The Winds of Winter may never come, I started building my own continuation, first by imagining Dany’s arc beyond where the series left her. I sketched it out all the way through the end, filled in the basically all the blanks, even drafted parts of it. At some point, though, I started wondering about her origins, what if she was more than just a descendant of Valyria? What if there was a deeper legacy?
That’s how my OC Character Aelyria was born.
She started as an alternate vision of Daenerys, someone shaped by similar pain, power, and prophecy, but she became her own person. An immortal Valyrian woman from before the Doom. A character forged not to replace Dany (never—Dany is my girl), but to honor the elements I loved most. Her strength, devastating tenderness, her internal fire, getting back up while the world continues to try to burn her. She carries shades of Daenerys, yes, but also Aelin, Katniss, Rand al’Thor, even a bit of Paul Atreides (minus, you know, the dark messiah stuff).
It’s been one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever written and continue to write. Even if not many people read it, even if it stays small, I’m just grateful to be telling her story. She’s changed the way I think about love, power, grief, and myth.
So if you’re here—thank you. Truly.
This one’s for the ones who never got the ending they deserved.

Been thinking a lot about heteronormativity vis-a-vis my beloved For All Mankind and Wheel of Time. FAM has annoyed me in that we’re allegedly running about twenty years ahead of the irl timeline on gay rights, but no one is casually gay. All of the queer characters are there To Be Gay. Like justice for Will who I was expecting to get an actual personality/storyline in season 4, but no all he ever did was Be Gay In Space. Ellen and Larry’s entire storyline is It Is Hard to be Gay. I’m just so over it, like drop a casual reference that Dani’s stepson married a man or one of the female crew has a wife waiting back home or something. No wonder I fixated on Molly and Margot - they’re so easily the most interesting people on the show (closely followed by Aleida, how does this show have the best women and force me to spend so much time with Ed Baldwin).
Whereas Wheel of Time is just so casually queer - you know the Lews/Lanfear/Ishy sexual tension triangle is on purpose. Dana assumes Mat and Rand are together because it’s something she would reasonably expect to encounter. I wish they would do more with aes sedai relationships, but they clearly exist and are not a big deal.
It’s not perfect, but that is what I want! I don’t want the gay president if her plotline for twenty years is Having a Hard Time Being Gay. I’ve seen that before, I’ve lived that. I want it to just be a casual thing that’s fully integrated into the world and not always serving some purpose. I really thought FAM season 4 would give me that and ugh no it was just Straight People on Mars!!

Had the weirdest dream where wot and got world's collided???? There were a lot of cool shit happening but I didn't write any of down once I woke up bc I forgot :(
It would be interesting to see those two universe combined. Or how the characters from each book would fare on the other's universe.
Also, I'd love to see some characters interact. Like for example Rand interacting with Jon and Dany and talking about the responsibilities of saving the world. Or Mat and Tyrion drinking together. Or Arya joining the wondergirls for some adventure.

Ballad of Cyclops lore
When Lucy Rand is born. The brotherhood welcome the little power fist.
They don't call Dani cage that because obviously they see her as a future captain America [plot twist they end up being absolutely right]
When she turns like 14-15 Erik gives Lucy some gauntlets that glow energy shit to mimic her dad. And the mechanical shit to honor Steel Fist.
Dani: Sweet now we can smash shit together!
Lucy: Power fist and....
Dani: Cage. Just cage.
Sounds like they will grow up to be some badass ladies!

I always feel like such a basic bitch when people in my fandoms are talking about their faves and are like “yeah I love Squiggens McStay who appears on like 2 pages in the 3rd book and I’ve come up with all this cool lore for him and written all the fics in his tag on A03!”
Meanwhile I’m like my faves in RotE? Fitz and the Fool. Faves in aSoIaF? Dany, Arya, and Tyrion. Faves in Stormlight? Kaladin and Shallan. Faves in WoT? Rand and Egwene. My faves in tLT are my one and only exception (Camilla and Palamedes 4eva!) and even then they’re still really popular. Same with shipping; I am not really interested in pairings with 0 textual basis so I am here obsessing over the standards like Griddlehark and Fitzloved
